Guide to Asherah
Building Buildings

Guaranteed Not to Confuse You More Than 37.482% More Than You're Already Confused

1. Obtain a deed. Deeds are most commonly available through donation. Occasionally they're given out as prizes in various contests, events or drawings.
2. Choose a town you want to be in. All towns "above" Arthos have special housing districts. It is not recommended that you build "below" Arthos since you cannot return to that area once you've gone to Arthos.

3. Find a plot that looks like this. (This plot is 3 x 3. If you have a large house deed, a guild hall or large shop deed, the plot will have to be 4 x 3 or 5 x 3.)(Mappers, please note. These tiles must be placed on the first layer. The tile is P8C1R2. There cannot be any trees or other objects within one tile of the building plot. Also check the item file to be sure there isn't an invisible house on the map already.)
4. Stand at least one mapping tile away from the plot.

5. Left click the deed in your inventory

6. Left click "use".

7. "Drag" your mouse, with the left button held down, across from your inventory to the building plot.

8. Left click on the house when it is seated on the plot to lock it down.

9. Obtain a house key or guild key from an admin. Shops do not need a key. (Mappers, please note. When a new house is built, be sure to "seal" the screen so airships cannot fly off the edges into oblivion. Not that airships should ever enter buildings, but we all know they do. We know this because we often have to rescue them from the oblivion into which they have flown.)
10. Left click on the key in your inventory while standing in front of the closed door and click "use". The door will automatically open. Be sure to lock up before you leave.

If you get a message that says "This terrain is too rough to build here", the building tiles have been placed on the wrong layer or there are objects too close to the building plot. Sometimes the object is YOU. There must be at least one border of empty tiles around each plot. You can add in trees and other landscape features later. You may also get a message that says "You cannot build off the map, or on the edges of it" if you have placed the building tile too close to the edge of a map. You can, however, build two buildings immediately adjacent to each other. You can only have two buildings with working exits on a map.

This is the way it ideally works. If you have any other problems, consult an admin.

Blue Cottage

Blue Cottage Exterior

Blue Cottage Interior

This cottage is not blue. But it has got a blue roof.

You get precisely the same items as you get in the small house (above).

Small Farm

Small Farm

Small Farm Interior

The tiles next to the house can be turned into cultivatable land like the farming land by hoeing them, although that implement has been removed from the standard game and watering became the skill.

You get:
  • House on 1/2 of a screen
  • Personalize, private mailbox
  • Personalized, locking door
  • Personalized key
  • Personal vault (in addition to your player vault)
  • Two Tables
  • Two Chairs
  • Four stools
  • Decorative cabinet
  • Decorative Bookshelf with nonfunctional books
  • Two decorative, non-functional walltorches
  • Decorative clock that's right twice a day (unless you're in the military).
  • Frighteningly bad carpet with a delicate pattern of ugly on ghastly.
    Large House

    Large House Exterior

    Large House Interior

    You get:
  • House on 1/2 of a screen
  • Personalize, private mailbox
  • Personalized, locking door
  • Personalized key
  • Personal vault (in addition to your player vault)
  • One table
  • Four chairs
  • Two Stools
  • One Stove
  • Inscrutable heart-shaped interior
  • One tiny, tiny, dark window

    Small Shop

    Small Shop Exterior

    Small Shop Interior

    You get:
    • Building on 1/2 of a screen
    • Two Decorative Torches
    • One clock (correct twice a day)
    • One Table
    • Three Stools
    • Personalized, programmable NPC
    • Ugly on Ghastly Carpet in EarthTones dredged out of some drug-induced 1974 fantasy of "back to nature" interior design. You can almost smell the decades of mold, mildew, unwashed socks and missed litter pans. If you do nothing else, tear out this carpet. Pronto. Seriously. And get rid of the pad under it, which will undoubtedly fall to pieces when you try to remove it. And if you want to get rid of the smell, the only way to do it is to replace the underlayment too. Fortunately we will do all that for you for one low price.

    Small Guild Hall

    Small Guild Hall Exterior

    Small Guild Hall Interior

It's small, it's cramped. It hasn't got many features, and it's got wretched carpet. There are pretty significant water stains on the ceiling and it's obviously been leaking down on the inside of the walls for at least thirty years. You can see from the exterior, the roof is flat and was never designed to be snow-bearing and of course, most of Asherah gets plenty of snow. The last estimate to repair the roof was more than the cost of of the building itself. We suggest you pass on this one and get the Fortress Guild Hall.

    You get:
    • Locking door personalized for your guild
    • Each guild member gets a key
    • Guild Vault (Any member can drop an item in the vault and any member can remove any item. This is good for sharing items that were purchased communally or for rich guys to offer their largess to the poorer members.)
    • Bulletin Board (This board is only viewable from within the building, so you have to either have a key or be a guest of a member to view it. Generally they are filled with idiotic spam or abusive/obscene messages. If the messages are too offensive they will be removed.)

    Fortress Guild Hall

This is a Fortress Guild Hall. It looks nothing like a fortress. Seriously. It looks like a freaking farm house. Not even like a farm house. It looks like a Machine Shop/Shed Against The Cow Pasture Fence on the Back of the Property. See? Admit it. This is not a fortress.

Yeah, that's what I thought too.

    Here's the interior.

    You get:
    • Locking door personalized for your guild
    • Each guild member gets a key
    • Standard vault like the ones you find elsewhere in the game
    • Guildhall vault where players can deposit an item to share with their guildmates.
    • Anvil
    • Alchemy Lab
    • Bulletin Board (This board is only viewable from within the building, so you have to either have a key or be a guest of a member to view it. Generally they are filled with idiotic spam or abusive/obscene messages. If the messages are too offensive they will be removed.)
    • One table
    • Four chairs
    • Two stools
    • Same ugly carpet as in the shops.
